Meet Susan:

After a successful corporate career, my professional journey took an unexpected turn when my job was eliminated at the end of 2020. Rather than seeing it as an end, I embraced it as an opportunity to pursue a lifelong passion—exploring the rich history of our country through its National Park Service units. With a goal of visiting all 423 sites designated at the time, I quickly discovered that some of the smallest and lesser-known locations held some of the most fascinating and underappreciated stories. This realization deepened my appreciation for the historical, cultural, and natural significance these sites offer. My mission now is to educate, highlight, and share the importance of not only NPS sites but also state and local historical places, emphasizing the impact they have on our daily lives and our collective understanding of the past.

Meet Monica:

I worked with people with Intellectual Disabilities for over 40 years which makes me qualified for nothing special. I’ve always had a love of the outdoors but it blossomed in high school when my best friend and her family invited me to go camping in Colorado with them. It was my first time camping and my first time in Colorado and I fell in love with all of it. I just enjoy being outside and want other people to feel the joy of nature and the awkwardness of having a spider web land in your open mouth as you walk along a trail. *Note to self…hike with your mouth shut.*

  1. I am a noob. I like to walk, hike, and camp, but I really don’t know too much about parks outside of Texas State Parks. I’ve been to many of them but not all of them.
  2. I defer to Susan regarding all the national park stuff. I mostly like to talk and I’m going to feel free to butt in and ask questions if I need to do so. I hope everyone out there who asks questions will put them in the comments so we can talk about them in the podcast.
  3. I like to learn and I have learned that Susan is a font of information. We’re ALL going to be learning here.
  4. I cuss. A lot.
  5. I’ll try NOT to cuss a lot.
  6. I don’t guarantee that I won’t cuss a lot.
  7. We’re doing this to motivate women, and men, to get out there and see what your part of the world has to offer. We hope you learn something from us but we also hope that you have fun. We’re both kind of goofy so this isn’t going to be a fancy, shiny, site. We’re going to fuck mess up a lot. We may not edit that out. We’re going to be real and we hope you stick around and enjoy life with us.
  8. This is our first time doing anything like this so we would appreciate some kindness and understanding. Once you get to know us, we both appreciate snark.
